This fall legislative session, the Prince George's Council has the opportunity to take up Paid Sick Leave legislation that will allow people who work in Prince George's County to earn up to 7 days of paid sick leave.

In President Barack Obama's state of the union address, he called for Congress to pass legislation that would allow millions of Americans to take up to 7 days paid sick leave. However, because of the partisan gridlock in Congress President Obama has called for states and local governments to take action by passing their own paid sick days policies.

Right now around 131,000 employees in Prince George's County are forced to make impossible choices: go to work sick, send an ill child to school or daycare, or stay home and sacrifice much-needed income or, worse, risk job loss. Over half of full-time Maryland workers who earn less than $35,000 annually lack access to paid sick days. Paid Sick Leave legislation will help to bring economic security to families throughout Prince George's County.
