Paid sick leave must become law without Hogan's signature

Larry Hogan has signaled he won't sign HB1, the Healthy Working Families Act, in his last batch of signings this week. His choice is a veto he already knows will be overridden next January, or letting paid sick leave become law without a signature now. He should do the latter; let him know that. Call 410-974-3901.

HB1’s earned paid sick days standard will benefit Maryland businesses

Though a lobbyist for "small businesses" whines about the alleged disaster of state-mandated paid sick leave, actual small business persons embrace HB1, a law passed this year with a veto-proof majority. Gov. Hogan's deadline for vetoing, signing or adoption by inaction for HB1 is in just a few days. We can tell him to do the right thing -- sign it.

Home Stretch: Gov. Hogan needs to sign paid sick leave bill

Gov. Larry Hogan has scheduled a massive bill signing, his last for the 2017 session, on May 25. But he can dangle vetoes for two more days after that, including for the Healthy Working Families Act, the paid sick leave bill. We need to let him know that a veto -- just a stalling method for the inevitable override -- is not acceptable conduct of his office.
