DACA IS GOING TO THE US SUPREME COURT TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12^th

Marylanders – and friends outside the state – should realize that a genuine crossroads for our nation’s values and health is before us this week as the US Supreme Court considers the legal logjam on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. There is much to do.

  SIGN UP HERE FOR SOLIDARITY ACTION through prayer at weekly services, vigils, press conferences, social media, op-eds or calling your congressperson.

If the Supreme Court supports the administration’s decision to end DACA, hundreds of thousands of people who are Americans in every way but their status would lose the right to work and live without fear, and ultimately be vulnerable to deportation. We cannot let this happen. We must use our voices to protect our community. And 83 percent of Americans support a path to citizenship for DACA recipients, so we are not shouting in the wilderness.

Immigrant youth and activists across the country took their fight to the highest court in the land, and on November 12, 2019 the US Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the legality of the administration’s decision to terminate DACA. HOME IS HERE public events Sunday, Nov. 10; Monday; Nov. 11 and Tuesday, Nov. 12 bring visibility to the crisis here in the DMV.

If you are in the DC, Maryland, Virginia region, PLEASE SIGN UP HERE to have a DACA Recipient come speak to your congregation the weekend of Nov. 8-10.  Also, you can support the needs of marchers coming to DC as you: 

*SIGN UP HERE TO PROVIDE MEALS to DACA Marchers in DC between Nov. 11-Nov. 16.  Please note that there are tabs at the bottom that take you to sign up sheets for each of the two locations where marchers are staying.  After you sign up, someone will contact you with further information on how/where to deliver the meals to the locations.  

*GIVE HERE A FINANCIAL DONATION TOWARDS MEALS for DACA Marchers in DC, and make your donation through NAKASEC, a 501c3 organization helping to lead the march.  You MUST scroll to the bottom of the page, and enter the words “DC March” as a note in the Contribution Memo line.

People of faith are called to act

We need to show up for everyone-- For our friends, for our congregants, for our undocumented family members. For those with temporary protected status (TPS) or deferred enforced departure (DED) recipients who live every day in limbo. As we fight for DACA and lift up the stories of our DACA recipient community members, we stand with all, no matter their status.
