Protecting People on Medicaid, Fighting Health Insurance Increases, Pushing for Medicare For All
One of Maryland’s Members of Congress, Rep. Andy Harris CD-01, voted for the Republican budget bill even though close to 31,000 people in his district will lose healthcare. That’s not right! We need to fight back for the families, children, and seniors who will be affected by cuts to Medicaid in his district and all over Maryland. The budget also strips tens of millions of dollars in funding from hospitals, nursing homes and providers, making it hard for them to maintain the vital services patients need, especially in rural and urban areas. In addition, it will increase health insurance premiums and raise the cost of health care for everyone.Â
We, along with our local chapters Progressive Harford County and Shore Progress are starting a campaign to hold Andy Harris accountable for his vote to give huge tax breaks to billionaires while taking away people’s healthcare. If you’re a constituent, please sign the petition.Â
Stay tuned this week for some great events coming up in July including a community event in Bel Air on July 26th and events on July 30th to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid! As we celebrate these two critical public health programs we will educate Marylanders about the need to move to a Medicare For All system in our country. It’s the best way to ensure that everyone is in, no one is out when it comes to having healthcare coverage. We can remove the barriers to care, break away from profiteering insurance companies, and redirect our health and tax dollars to a public program by passing the Medicare For All legislation.
