This change aligns our short name with how we see ourselves today: a dynamic, growing movement rooted in Maryland but connected to a bigger vision for justice and equity. Alongside this shift, you’ll notice our new logo in all our online spaces. It’s the same fight for working people, the same community power, just with a fresh new look.

We hope you enjoyed a well-deserved day off and a holiday weekend filled with rest, reflection, and community. Yesterday, our members proudly showed up, suporting our allies at MCEA in Labor Day parades across Montgomery County. It was a reminder of what this day is all about: honoring the labor movement, the workers who keep our communities running, and the families we fight for every day.

Press Conference Tomorrow — Stand with Us

Progressive Maryland and the Working Families Party are coming together for a major announcement in the Montgomery County Executive race. On Wednesday, September 3 at 12pm, we’ll stand with Councilman Will Jawando and community allies to share special news for his campaign. This is a big moment for our movement — let’s show the power of working families, labor, and housing justice leaders united in the fight for a better Montgomery County.

Healthcare Task Force

We’re excited about everyone who is taking action with us to protect our healthcare! Our Hold Andy Harris Accountable campaign is growing thanks to our volunteers, our chapters and all the concerned CD 01 constituents we’re talking to. Help us keep it going – we want to deliver our petitions to Rep. Harris later this month but we need more signatures.

➔ If you live in Rep. Andy Harris’ district, please sign our petition. Share it with folks you know in Harford and Cecil Counties, the area of Baltimore County in the district and people who live on the Eastern Shore

➔ Join our Monday night phone banks to educate voters in CD -01 about the healthcare cuts and invite them to sign the petition to Rep. Harris: pgmd.us/CD01phonebank

The significant funding cuts to Medicaid and the additional enrollment obstacles that Republicans put into place will lead to thousands of people in Maryland, especially those with disabilities, those families who are financially struggling, and children at risk of losing care. We need state lawmakers to do all that they can to preserve people’s health care, including all of us who will be hit by steep increases in health insurance premiums! Our state can fight back against these cuts and it can also step up and take on the insurers and MCOs who are making millions of dollars in profits from our healthcare.

News You Can Use: Gov facing down Trump while facing tough financial outlook for state

Sharing a state line with the occupied District of Columbia is uncomfortable enough, but (as Governor Wes Moore knows) being in an extra-inning social media duel with the King of Calumny -- who also doubles as US president -- is even tougher.

Plus the state is battling the loss of jobs and income from implementation of Project 25 and resulting paralysis of a great many reforms that Moore campaigned on.

And school has begun, with the battle to reduce absenteeism (aggravated since the Pandemic) and cope with Artificial Intelligence, a tool for both education reform and serious escalations of cheating.
