Brazil will look to get back to their best when they travel to Chile for their next CONEMBOL 2026 World Cup qualifying match on Thursday.

The Selecao's unimpressive World Cup qualifying campaign continued with a shock 1-0 loss to Paraguay in their previous game. This result meant they had only won one of their last five qualifiers, and saw them drop to fifth in the rankings with a meagre 10 points after eight games.

Similarly, Chile are in torrid form coming into this match, with their 2-1 loss to Bolivia in the last game meaning they were winless in their previous five qualifying matches.

Brazil come into this game with history on their side, having won 13 of the 17 clashes between them and Chile, only losing once to this opposition.

The Selecao have been far from their best in these qualifiers. However, they should grab the opportunity to turn things around by defeating a Chilean squad who come into this game in much worse form.

Chile will host Brazil in a FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier match at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos in Santiago on Friday, October 11.

The Chile vs Brazil FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier match will start at 05:30 AM IST on Friday. Live streaming of the match will be available in India.

Brazil are coming into this contest after a 0-1 loss at Paraguay last month. Chile also lost their last encounter at 1-2 at the same venue against the travelling Bolivia in September.

Brazil are currently fifth in the FIFA World Cup 2026 CONMEBOL region qualifying standings with 10 points from three wins, four losses and a draw after eight rounds.

Chile have won only once, drawn twice and lost five games, totaling five points and lie in the ninth spot in the 10-team table.

CONMEBOL, also known as the South American Football Confederation, has a total of 10 teams with each team playing two matches, at home and away, against all the other sides.

The top-six teams after 18 rounds of matches will directly qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026 which will be jointly hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico. The team placed seventh will proceed to play in the FIFA Play-Off Tournament.

Five-time World Champions Brazil had topped the last two editions of the FIFA World Qualifiers in the CONMEBOL region. Brazil are ranked fifth in the FIFA World Rankings whereas Chile are in the 49th spot.

Chile vs Brazil football head-to-head

Brazil hope to begin the October international break on a high on Thursday when they face Chile in a high-profile World Cup qualifier.

The five-time World Cup winners are fifth in CONMEBOL's 10-team table coming into this game, the result of inconsistent form over the last year-plus, though a win could see them leapfrog Ecuador into fourth place. Chile, meanwhile, are ninth and have won just once in eight qualifying games and with 10 games to go, they will need to start correcting course soon if they want to take part in the 2026 World Cup.

Here's what you need to know before tuning in.

The Chile vs Brazil head-to-head record is heavily tilted in Brazil’s favour with the Selecao winning 54 of the total 75 matches, including a huge 4-0 win in their last encounter against Chile in the 2022 FIFA World Cup CONMEBOL Qualifiers.

Chile, meanwhile, have won eight games with their last win over Brazil coming in 2015. As many as 13 matches have ended in draws.
