We need to prepare for the next phase and push for COVID relief and for healthcare for all. Please come to the Healthcare Task Force (HCTF) meeting TONIGHT, Tuesday, April 13, at 7pm for this important discussion. The meeting will give us a chance to talk about how we can keep making progress toward greater equity, access and justice in our healthcare system.

The pandemic has shone a spotlight on the deep inequities in our society over the last year, especially when it comes to healthcare.  Much more can and should be done around the response to COVID, including support for Long COVID patients and the need to address vaccine equity across the world, especially in the global south.

It’s also clear that the serious shortcomings in our current for-profit healthcare system have failed tens of millions of Americans during this crisis. It’s never been more apparent that we should set up a Medicare For All system to help guarantee every American the right to health care coverage. Fortunately, 115 Members of Congress see this need too, and are sponsoring the Medicare for All Act of 2021, H.R. 1976, just introduced by Rep. Jayapal last month. Here in Maryland we can thank Representatives Brown, Sarbanes, Raskin, and Mfume for being co-sponsors. campaign_for_hc_justice_sig.png

Organizations and activists around the country are renewing their efforts to win Medicare for All. Progressive Maryland is ready to make Medicare For All a top priority, including organizing to get more co-sponsors from our Congressional delegation. Please help us plan our next steps. Local governments are being urged to pass M4A resolutions to bring other Members of Congress to co-sponsorship, and we are moving forward in Prince George's and other counties on those efforts.

At the meeting we will also:

  • Share an update on the great work of the End Medical Debt in Maryland Campaign.
  • Hear about the growing national effort to fight for global vaccine equity.
  • Get updates on local, state and national organizing for Medicare For All including local resolution campaigns.

Health equity starts when we move beyond the profit motive in the healthcare system. Medicare for All puts us on that path. Join this conversation -- tonight and moving forward. Join us to build power and make change.
