While there were many notable women leaders from social movements, Black Lives Matter and #Me Too, and from the U.S. Congress, Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Barbara Lee (D-CA) were the most inspirational speakers, the women who are leading change in their communities.

People's Action organizers Chelsea White with Down Home North Carolina and Ruth Anna Buffalo, Native American Organizer and public health advocate, were truly inspiring. Chelsea is from Appalachia and is committed to stay in her community and fight for economic change. Ruth Anna Buffalo turned a tragedy of losing her sister on a dangerously narrow road into a community victory when she fought successfully to get the road widened. Her activism has motivated her to run for political office.

Each woman who spoke ended their speech with commentary about the state of our union and their commitment in 2018. You can watch the full video here.

Take Action Anne Arundel County is committed to making positive change in the county through our work on local elections at the county level and our work on legislative issues we care about at the state and local level. What's your commitment in 2018?

Action report coordinated by Claire Miller of Take Action Anne Arundel County, the progressive Maryland Chapter in AAC.
