Climate Policy Analyst
Location: Maryland

Climate Policy Analyst: The Climate Policy Analyst is responsible for legislative analysis and bill drafting in support of our work to end environmental racism and eliminate sacrifice zones in Maryland. As our resident expert on all things climate policy, the Analyst will represent Progressive Maryland in coalition spaces and build relationships with allied organizations, elected officials, and other stakeholders. They will also educate our grassroots leaders, community organizers, and senior staff about policy questions and collaborate with our communications team on developing accurate and compelling messaging that will drive our membership base to take action with us on climate justice issues. Under the supervision of the Deputy Executive Director, the Analyst will develop winning legislative strategies to advance our environmental policies.
Responsibilities
● Lead research and analysis of climate policy with a special focus on strategies to end environmental racism, eliminate sacrifice zones, and ensure a just transition to renewable energy sources
● Utilize both written material and presentations to brief Progressive Maryland colleagues and grassroots members and leaders on climate policy issues
● Collaborate with our communications team to develop messaging for social media, letters to the editor, and interviews with press
● Analyze and track pending climate legislation at the state and local levels
● With the support of the Deputy Executive Director, develop and implement strategies to advance our legislation
● Represent Progressive Maryland in coalition spaces with allies and other climate stakeholders
Qualifications
● 3-5 years of professional experience in climate policy
● Strong written and verbal communication skills, an ability to translate policy issues to non-specialist audiences
● Strong attention to detail
● Ability to meet deadlines under pressure while handling multiple projects
● Ability to work independently, as a member of a team with both internal and external partners, and a team lead
● Basic computer literacy and a willingness to quickly learn and use new digital platforms
● The ability to think, reflect, communicate, challenge the conventional wisdom, make judgments in complicated situations, and show flexibility.
● Willingness to participate in occasional civic engagement activities such as canvassing, phone banking, and text banking during election years.
● A clear sense of the challenges our communities face, impatience in the face of those wrongs, and a drive to address them

Salary, Benefits, and Position Details: Salary is commensurate with experience between $60,000-$70,000. Baltimore City Organizer
Community Organizer Job Description
Location: Baltimore City

Community Organizer: The Organizer will work to sustain and expand Progressive Maryland's organizing work in their region by developing the local PM chapter(s) and engaging community members in ongoing campaigns. They build an ongoing base of members, volunteers, and grassroots leaders who identify with and support the mission of Progressive Maryland and participate in statewide issue campaigns in solidarity with Progressive Maryland members from other chapters across the state. The Organizer also builds relationships with allied organizations, elected officials, and candidates for office in their region. Under the supervision of the Director of Organizing, the Organizer works in concert with our team of organizers across the state to execute grassroots power-building plans that further Progressive Maryland’s programmatic and electoral goals.
Responsibilities
● Build a base of members, volunteers, and grassroots leaders in Baltimore City
● Recruit, develop and train Progressive Maryland members to take positions of leadership within their local Progressive Maryland chapter and on statewide issue campaigns
● Work with our members to grow their local chapter of Progressive Maryland
● Recruit, manage, and train Progressive Maryland members to canvass and phone bank before, during, and after election season
● Mobilize our base to take action (turning out to events, submitting testimony during legislative session, signing petitions, etc.)
● Use phones, social media, and community outreach techniques to recruit and identify prospective members
● Invite folks to become dues-paying members of Progressive Maryland
● Meet base building and outreach goals, which are tracked and reported in an accurate and timely fashion each week
● With the support of the Director of Organizing, develop and implement grassroots basebuilding plans
● Represent Progressive Maryland at community events and meetings across their region

Senior Organizer, Seven Ten Black Worker Center
Location: Prince George’s County, Maryland

Worker Center Organizer: The Organizer will work to develop a worker center program as a core component of the work of Progressive Maryland. The 7/10 Worker Center will focus particularly on the needs of Black workers as well as formerly-incarcerated people. The Organizer will build connections with employers in the region and tap into networks of service providers to connect justice-impacted individuals and other low wage Black workers with jobs and other supports they need to build a successful career. They will build a base of Black workers who are seeking to improve working conditions and develop them as grassroots leaders that will self-determine what their needs are and build power for policy reforms which will increase the availability of quality jobs and increased rights at work. In addition to this organizing work, the Organizer will work to hold events to educate workers on their rights and events that increase their job prospects. The Organizer also builds relationships with allied organizations, elected officials, and other stakeholders. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Organizer works in concert with our team of organizers across the state to execute grassroots power-building plans that further Progressive Maryland’s programmatic and electoral goals.

Justice Reform Organizer
Location: Maryland

Campaign Organizer: Under the supervision of our Campaigns Director, the Organizer will sustain and expand our criminal justice reform campaign by developing grassroots leaders to take on key roles as decision-makers and drivers of the campaign. The Organizer collaborates with our team of regional organizers to build a statewide grassroots base supporting their issue from across Maryland as well as on meeting additional organizational programmatic and electoral goals. They also seek out and build partnerships with potential ally organizations.
Responsibilities
● Build a base of members, volunteers, and grassroots leaders in support of criminal justice reform
● Recruit, develop and train Progressive Maryland members to take positions of leadership on their campaign
● Recruit, manage, and train Progressive Maryland members to canvass and phone bank before, during, and after election season
