Montgomery County is known as one of the most progressive jurisdictions in the nation, however after an eight month fight, a bill raising the minimum wage to $15 narrowly passed the all-Democratic Council. County Executive Ike Leggett then became the first Democrat to veto a $15 minimum wage bill.
It's clear we can no longer be complacent and assume our elected officials will look out for our best interests. We must build a powerful grassroots movement of working class people who will:
- Hold politicians accountable when they fail to stand up for working people
- Elect truly progressive candidates at all levels of government
- Help grow the movement by getting involved in their local communities
