Progressive Maryland believes that we deserve a democracy where everyone has an equal voice and our government works for everyone, not just for the wealthy and special interests. This means having fair elections that can’t be bought by the rich and powerful. That starts with a public financing system for elections across Maryland.

Progressive Maryland believes that we deserve a democracy where everyone has an equal voice and our government works for everyone, not just for the wealthy and special interests. This means having fair elections that can’t be bought by the rich and powerful. That starts with a public financing system for elections across Maryland. Publicly financed elections strengthen the voice of everyday voters by turning ordinary residents into major donors to a campaign, which incentivizes candidates to spend more time hearing from them and minimizes the impact of special interests on electoral and legislative outcomes.

Right now the Maryland State Senate and House of Delegates are considering two bills that would create public campaign financing options for gubernatorial elections and candidates for the general assembly, SB 947 and SB 613. Progressive Maryland needs your help to make sure this bill becomes a law! Without public MovementPoliticsTeambanner.jpgfinancing for elections across the state, the voice of the people will continue to be shut out of the electoral process because of politicians reliance on large campaign contributions from developers and other wealthy individuals. We need to show the State Senate and House of Delegates that we, the people of Maryland, care about having fair elections and believe that public financing of elections is the right step to take to achieve this goal.
