For the past 27 years, Martin Mitchell has called Laurel home. His journey began at Laurel High School, and from there, he pursued higher education at Bowie State University, graduating with a degree in History & Government. 

In Laurel, Martin has a track record of standing up for the rights and interests of the community. His role as a city counselor who sponsored rent stabilization and played a significant part in granting city employees the right to a collective bargaining unit speaks to his commitment to equity and fairness. As the potential first black mayor of Laurel, Martin Mitchell offers a fresh perspective and better representation for the diverse residents of the city. 

Martin's extensive experience in local, county, state, and federal government sets him apart as a candidate who can hit the ground running from day one. As a consultant, he has amassed the knowledge and relationships necessary to navigate the complexities of public service. His roles, such as Chair of the Maryland State Conference Political Action Committee and his involvement in numerous advisory committees as well as the NAACP, showcase his dedication to public service and the betterment of Laurel.

Beyond his political roles, Martin is deeply involved in community initiatives. He actively participates in mutual aid projects and advocates for issues like transit-oriented development, tenant protections, workers' rights, and improved public transportation. His love for engaging with the community is evident through his mentorship and coaching of young wrestlers.

Martin has captured endorsements from Progressive Maryland, Delegate Joseline Pena-Melnyk and Montgomery County Councilman Will Jawando. Martin shares a vision for a stronger economy, safer neighborhoods, and affordable housing in Laurel. He envisions a Laurel where good-paying jobs are abundant, where families can feel safe, and where living costs are affordable for everyone.
