Maryland Just Made It Easier to Access the Benefits You Deserve

Big news for Marylanders: The state has officially launched an upgraded website that simplifies the application process for government benefits, including food, cash, healthcare, and energy assistance. The new platform, Maryland Benefits (benefits.maryland.gov), allows people to apply for multiple programs all in one place, with one application.

Governor Wes Moore put it plainly: for too long, people seeking support have had to “tell us about your poverty over and over and over again.” This overhaul changes that. Whether you're applying for SNAP (food assistance), Medicaid, or other supports, you no longer need to submit the same financial and personal information multiple times. Now, the process is streamlined, faster, and more respectful of people’s time and dignity.

Here’s what’s new:

  • One application, multiple programs – Fill out your info once and get matched with the benefits you're eligible for.

  • Faster service – What used to take 80 minutes now takes just 28.

  • Mobile-friendly – Apply from your phone or computer, in English or Spanish.

  • Smart recommendations – The system can identify programs you may qualify for, even if you didn’t initially know to apply for them.

This new site builds on improvements from last year, such as the screening tool that helped individuals determine their eligibility. But now, Maryland has taken the next big step—making sure applying is just as easy as determining your eligibility.

More than 22,000 Marylanders have already used the platform since it quietly launched two weeks ago. And the state isn’t done: Medicaid enrollment for low-income residents and those in long-term care is expected to be added soon.

At the launch event in Prince George’s County, Secretary of Human Services Rafael López emphasized that this new system enhances “respect and dignity for the people we serve.” We couldn’t agree more.

This is a major win for working families, older adults, people with disabilities, and anyone who needs a little extra support. If that’s you—or someone you care about—head to benefits.maryland.gov to check it out.

Let’s spread the word. Help make sure Marylanders know help is just one application away.
