In light of the tragic fatal shooting of Sonya Massey, a Black woman, in her own home in Illinois, Progressive Maryland stands in solidarity with the call to protect Black women and address the systemic issues of violence and racism within law enforcement.
The recent events surrounding Sonya Massey's death serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for police reform in our country. The violence and racial bias exhibited in this case highlight the inherent dangers faced by Black women at the hands of police
Progressive Maryland condemns such acts of violence and discrimination, and advocates for comprehensive police reform measures that prioritize accountability, transparency, and the protection of all individuals, especially marginalized people like Black women. We have been tirelessly advocating for reforms here in Maryland, successfully repealing our law enforcement officer bill of rights as one stepping stone to real change.
It is imperative that we work towards creating a fair and just society where Black women are not subjected to such senseless tragedies. We are mourning Sonya Massey with you all, and hope you stay safe during this difficult time.
In Solidarity,Â
The PM Team
