 The 2026 Progressive Summit Is Here

The momentum is real and now it’s time to turn our recent wins into lasting power. On Saturday, October 24, progressives from across Maryland will come together for the 2026 Progressive Summit, our biggest statewide gathering of the year.

The Summit will bring together members, organizers, elected officials, grassroots leaders, and allied organizations to celebrate what we’ve built, shape our priorities for the year ahead, and prepare for the fights ahead. We’ll also hold Progressive Maryland’s Annual Membership Assembly, where members will elect our Board of Directors.

And we’re not stopping when the Summit ends. Join us afterward for the Progressive Summit Reception for an evening of celebration, networking, music, and special guests.

Healthcare Justice: 

Medicare for All Is Winning! Let’s Get More Senators and Representatives to Sign on! 

The Michigan Primary results prove that progressive positions and messages can help Democrats win in November and in 2028! We know it. Voters know it. Medicare For All is the only reform that takes back our health system from corrupt and greedy insurance companies and can make it possible to guarantee that everyone gets the health care they need and deserve. 

M4A meets the moment and the deep crisis we’re in. Incremental and half measures; letting insurers continue to make hundreds of millions of dollars off the Affordable Care Act do not!

Earlier today, a group of staff and leaders from PMD, People’s Action, and Physicians for A National Health Program met with a senior policy adviser on Sen. Alsobrooks’ staff to urge her to cosponsor the Medicare For All Act (S1506). They outlined problems ailing our current system: the enormous cost, the inequities, the lack of support for mental health, insurance company delays and denials, and the $1 trillion cuts to Medicaid proposed for the next decade.

The groups, along with other allies, will be following up with the Senator’s office about holding a community forum this fall. In the meantime, please email Sen. Alsobrooks today to ask her to sign on!

Join the Gaithersburg Tenant Union on Wednesday, August 19, from 7–8 PM at Gaithersburg High School. We’ll come together to discuss the issues tenants are facing, build collective power, and identify steps we can take to improve conditions for our communities.

Is the state backing down on accepted environmental building standards? And more News You Can Use

A joint General Assembly committee is poking Gov. Moore about a package of new regulations for buildings that seems to edge away from full alignment with federal standards.  Members have put a hold on approving them until answers are provided. Meanwhile, the divide between local police and ICE raiders appears to make the police helpless as ICE terrorizes locals and appears to be frightening many away from court appearances. We note in our national section that ICE, as promised by the new DHS brass,  is staying out of the headlines but amping up its seizures of folks both subject to their jurisdiction and not.

There's a heap of news from neighbor states, including hemp licensing in Virginia, voting rights protection in Delaware and education funding (or maybe not) in West Virginia.

Is cryptospora making its way to your food through the local sewer system? Check our national section, where you'll also find the D.C. roundup from our activist colleague Megan E, including the probable war crime of blocking oil shipments to Cuba, where folks are taking a  bigger hit than Iran, maybe. Guess it all depends on whom you think you can safely push around.
