Here are changes and new services from counties around Maryland to meet the emergency needs of the many who are sheltering in place. Today, March 23, 2020, Governor Larry Hogan ordered all businesses not deemed essential to shut down at 5 PM until further notice.

Housing Assistance in Prince George’s County


UPDATED MARCH 30 The Housing Initiative Partnership of Prince George's County is providing many affordable housing services during this State of Emergency: 



HIP can assess your mortgage refinance options, negotiate with your lender to prevent mortgage default, provide accurate information regarding foreclosure suspension, and assist you to apply for Maryland’s Homeowner’s Tax Credit Program.



HIP can provide accurate information regarding eviction process during Maryland’s state of emergency, and connect you to emergency services programs to help cover housing costs and prevent evictions. They can also minimize effects of loss of income on household budget by prioritizing expenses, and can assist you to apply for the Maryland Renter’s Tax Credit Program.


Household Finances

HIP can help you negotiate with creditors, access emergency assistance programs for utilities, and help you with tools and resources to stay afloat if you have lost income or employment.

Backpack Distribution

MCPS is pleased to collaborate with Manna Food to distribute weekend backpack food sacks throughout the county Distribution will take place on Fridays.

Anne Arundel County Schools will provide lunches to students during the two-week school shutdown beginning Monday, March 16. Curbside pickup of hot meals along with a snack will be provided to students at these school sites from noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Mobile meals vehicles will deliver meals to 21 additional sites, two schools and six communities, on weekdays as well. Each child will be provided with a single meal free of charge each day. Children must be between the ages of 2 and 18, but do not have to be eligible for free and reduced-price meals. Adults cannot accept meals on behalf of children.

People without health insurance in Maryland will have a chance to purchase it starting March 16 as the state opens a special enrollment window because of the coronavirus crisis. Policies can be purchased through the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, the state’s marketplace that sells individual policies. Many residents are eligible for subsidies. The enrollment window is open till April 15.

WSSC has announced suspension of water shutoffs in its bi-county service area; Pepco likewise will suspend service cutoffs and late fees.
