Donald Trump’s Department of Justice just launched a lawsuit against every active federal judge in Maryland. Let that sink in.
Why would a former president and current presidential candidate take such an extreme and unprecedented step?
Because Maryland’s judges followed the law.
Earlier this year, the Maryland District Court issued a reasonable and necessary order: a pause on deportations in cases where legal challenges are still pending. This order simply ensures that immigrants going through the court system have the right to due process—the right to be heard before life-altering decisions are made. That’s a cornerstone of the American legal system.
But instead of respecting the rule of law, Trump and his allies are trying to punish it.
By filing a lawsuit against our entire federal bench in Maryland, the Trump DOJ is attempting to intimidate the judiciary, undermine judicial independence, and push the courts to fall in line with his agenda. This is not leadership. This is not justice. This is authoritarianism in action.
And we won’t stand for it.
We are proud of our Maryland judges for having the courage to do what is right: standing with immigrants, defending constitutional protections, and refusing to let anyone be deported without a fair hearing. These judges are sending a powerful message—that the law should be applied fairly, regardless of politics or pressure from those in power.
No one should be detained for no reason. No one should be denied the opportunity to defend themselves in court. This is basic human decency. This is due process.
We hope other judges across the country follow Maryland’s lead. And we hope this court-ordered pause on unjust deportations remains firmly in place.
Because this moment isn’t just about immigration—it’s about whether our courts can operate without fear of political retaliation. It’s about whether we still believe in fairness, in independence, and in the idea that everyone—no matter who they are or where they’re from—deserves justice.
Donald Trump may want to bend the courts to his will, but Maryland is showing the nation what true judicial courage looks like.
We stand with our judges.
We stand with immigrants.
And we stand for justice.
